Healthy Snacks For Endurance Athletes

Endurance Athlete and Workout Warriors Snack Recommendations

I’m a huge believer in real food before and after workouts and races, but some just need energy to-go! Whether you are training for a marathon, bike race or you’re simply a workout addict (like me), here’s a curated list of healthy items recommended by nutritionists. Reminder, every single body is different. A majority of endurance athletes swear by fueling the body with high carbohydrates (ie, lots of sugar) to sustain energy for long-distance races. As usual, I dare to be different and like to fuel my clients with real food in different macronutrient ratios. Consider this, when the body can access stored fats from the meals before, it can utilize that as sustained energy. However, all of my clients are on different plans and different paths, so please customize this based upon what works for you, your body and your preferences.

Below is a variety of snacks ranging from everything from high carb to high fat to a balanced blend. Take a peak and let me know what works for you. With all the Fall races coming up, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to give them a try!

  1. Rice cakes + Almond Butter + Raspberries = YUM! My personal favorite.

  2. DIY GU Packs:  Coconut cream + Nut Butter + Raspberry Puree = YUM.

  3. Revive! Protein Powder: Huge fan, check out my blog for recipes or create your own.

  4. Jilz Crackers + turkey + goat cheese = YUM!

  5. Ancient Nutrition Bone Broth Bars (9G Sugar)

  6. Go Raw Sprouted Pumpkin Seed Bars: Check sugar count…A little high for me, but, it’s all bio-individual.

  7. Bulletproof Bars: For Bulletproof fans, includes cashew, coconut oil, collagen and is low in sugar!

  8. D-I-Y Phat Fudge: Recipe to make your own.

  9. Nick’s Sticks: Can’t get away from this. No sugar turkey, beef and chicken sticks. I love them and eat about one pack (of 2 sticks) per day. Enter “Baconbroccoli” at checkout for discount

  10. SKRATCH LABS: Sport Hydration Drink Mix – a little too much sugar but athletes swear by this!
